Take to the Sky
The morning of the show, E. and I had to drive an hour in the wrong direction back to Milan. There, we had to go visit the orthopedic surgeon who had to review E.'s x-rays. She was then informed that she needed surgery, and a pin put in her foot. E. borrowed a pair of crutches from her friend Alessandra. It was then decided that we would go to the show instead of skipping it. I know this sounds insane and super hardcare, but at this point in time Elyse was still quite mobile and doing well. Her foot got worse with the drive, seeing as it was difficult to elevate and it started turning blue and purple.
Then we headed to the show. The drive through the Alps was really breathtaking. We saw beautiful blue alpine lakes, quaint towns situated in valleys, and towering peaks. It was gorgeous and very Swiss. We found the road signs with German names amusing, and had fun attempting to pronounce them in an overdone German accent. We finally reached Zurich, and went to our room to decompress. We got room service, since E.'s condition had deteriorated a bit. We arranged for transport to the venue.
The show itself was alright. I feel like it was difficult for me to enjoy this show for a couple of reasons. For one, I had growing concern for E.'s injury and whether it would be safe for her to drive herself home or not. Also, after the explosiveness of the Milan show, it almost felt redundant. We caught a bit of a thunder storm during the show, and were treated to both lightning strikes, rain, and a rainbow.
HIGHLIGHTS:
Wednesday: OMG! Yes! I have been wanting to hear this song again for seven years! Finally! The only thing missing was Matt Chamberlain.
Black Dove: "I have to get to Texas" parts were epic. I admit that I found this song a bit boring for many years, but it is growing on me again.
Precious Things: I have never heard this song solo before. While it was a treat to hear, it felt like something was missing. I wanted to hear Matt's crashing drums and Jon's thundering bass. Maybe next tour?
Bliss: Now THIS was fantastic. I did not rush the stage, because I wanted to stay with E. to make sure that she was safe and that she didn't get crowded or toppled over during the rush. I hadn't heard it in so long. I feel like even without the band, particularly with her voice sounding as good as it does right now, that she really carried the intensity of the song without them. (But the band is still awesome.)
Take to the Sky: This is one of those songs that I will never, ever get sick of hearing live. (Especially with the "I feel the earth move" improv.)
DEATH CHAMBER:
Cloud On My Tongue: I don't care that everyone thinks this song is pretty. I have never, in all my years as a Tori fan, liked it. It's too generic pretty Tori Amos piano ballad. I think it's mediocre and bleh and I could go without ever hearing it again.
Ribbons Undone: The story before the song where she impersonates Tash ("Mummy, I'm not a lesbian") was hilarious, this song is probably her singular worse song ever. It is the crappiest song on the crappiest album. (It is NOT a good idea to write an album about ponies/butterflies/flowers).
Concertina: Meh.
China: BLARRRGH.
I ended up calling Air Canada after the show and changing my flight to a day later. I was originally going to fly out of Zurich, but I changed the flight to Rome. E. and I drove home (eleven hours) the next day, and I took an early early train to Rome to make my flight the next day. It was miserable and long and made me sick, but I am glad I did it to ensure E.'s safety. I just couldn't leave a woman with a broken foot to deal with that drive all by herself. She did get home safely. We slept briefly, and then we took a very early train to Rome. In my case, I had to catch a flight. E. went to the ER of the orthopedic hospital there in order to get treatment, where they finally (without surgery) managed to set her foot bone. She is now on the mend. But let's be real: this lady has balls.
Great post.I really found very interesting and useful blog to explore knowledge into the adventure .It gives great inspiration on natural things .I appreciate for your great efforts towards posting this blog.
